DECT is a worldwide established standard for cordless telephony. DECT is a sophisticated process which features high voice quality, supports seamless handover when switching cells and enabling access to numerous features of modern TC systems. DECT can further be used with encryption and tap-proof and is compatible between manufacturers.
Since phone services are now integrated in the IP world, it’s desirable for the IP standard to have an equivalent solution for cordless telephony. Wi-Fi technology is only suitable to some extent and has some system limitations. Voice-optimized Wi-Fi standards are currently still in the works. IP-DECT already offers an approach for connecting cordless telephony to the IP infrastructure now.
At the heart of the IP-DECT solution are so-called DECT Access Points (DAPs). They work like DECT bases for phones and are connected to the IP infrastructure on the network end. These DECT Access Points can be set up via network cables or wirelessly via the Wi-Fi network. Using several DAPs will yield high coverage. A DAP controller is typically used to control multiple DAP bases. With a suitable IP connection to a branch, even off-site locations can be connected via IP-DECT.
