Audio compression

Audio compression, or more precisely audio data compression, refers to a process which reduces the size of audio data through compression. This can save bandwidth or memory when transmitting or saving audio information. Like other compression methods such as video compression, these methods utilize a number of different options to reduce the data volume. Audio compression is used in a variety of areas, e.g. IP telephony, cell phone service and storing or streaming digital music.
